BEGINNING OUR NOMADIC LIFESTYLE

You know those “what if…” thoughts that linger in the back of your mind sometimes? The curiosity of trying something new but you just can’t pull the trigger on it. Well, we decided to say off with that, and instead, adopt a new mentality- “let’s see what happens!”.

We have a desire to travel and took the steps to make it our lifestyle. When I, Carlay, was offered a Virtual Art Teaching position we were finally convinced a dream life of constant adventure was truly possible. I could continue my career on a laptop, make a sufficient salary, and continue working towards my retirement plan. Ethan’s physical therapy career is what ultimately got us on the road though. He found a small travel health recruitment company that began helping him sign three-month contracts with health facilities all around the country. We gravitated towards the idea of living and traveling in an RV, so that is exactly what we did. After extensive research and deliberation between a motorhome, fifth-wheel, and travel trailer, we pulled the trigger on a 40 ft. Class A diesel motorhome. With excitement for a minimalistic lifestyle, we gladly purged about three-fourths of our belongings and moved into our new (well, new to us), 300 square foot home. And yes, our two cats and Newfoundland dog joined in the excitement as well! Since our departure from Charleston, South Carolina, we call a new town or city our home for about three months at a time. And after several years of travel, we’ve downsized even more and now live in a 21 ft travel trailer! We have fully adopted this minimalistic, sustainable lifestyle and absolutely love it!

“We’re not sure what the future has in store for us- and we’re excited about that! Come along and let’s see what happens!”

CARLAY

Carlay is an active individual who has a passion for the arts, a healthy lifestyle, and furry friends.

I grew up in Michigan and started RVing with my family at an early age. My family and I always had a passion for the outdoors. A basketball scholarship took me to Ohio where I studied Visual Arts and Visual Arts Education. I now work remotely as an Instructional Designer for a fitness company. In my free time, I love to apply my creativity, no matter what medium it may be. Check out my portfolio to see some of my latest work! Some of my other hobbies include getting lost in a book, wandering the woods, and dancing at a concert. Educating myself about the places we explore, as well as caring for the environment, is important to me. I am a pescatarian (non-meat eater who occasionally eats seafood) who loves cooking with fresh, whole foods. Practicing a natural, meditative, and active lifestyle is a priority of mine.

ETHAN

Ethan is an easy-going guy in search of unique places, authentic food, and a good craft beer.

I grew up in Ohio and spent most of my time playing sports. A college swimming scholarship took me to Michigan but Graduate school pulled me right back to the Buckeye state. Understanding the importance of staying active and healthy, I decided to become a Physical Therapist. Some hobbies I enjoy are cheering on Liverpool football and hitting the backcountry trails. Give me a few good ingredients and I can be pretty creative in the kitchen. Spending time and sharing a few beers with my family and friends is another happy place for me.

HERSHEL

Hershel is the king of the house. If he’s not snoozing in our bed, he is sunbathing or on watch duty by a window. Once you bring out the catnip he turns back into a playful kitten.

LUNA

Luna is a sassy tabby cat who loves snuggles and playtime. Her curiosity keeps her busy and helps keep Hershel on his toes. She’s a wild woman. Period.

LOKI

Loki is a rescued Newfoundland with a questionable past. His physical qualities and a few personality traits resemble the grizzly bear. Although he is 7 years old, he is surprisingly light on his feet and is always ready to explore. Loki enjoys company with those he knows but has some trust issues with strangers. He deals with high anxiety so it is best to just let Loki be Loki and give him space. Doggie friends are his best buds, especially the little guys!

NIMBUS

Nimbus passed away in January of 2019. We adopted him as a puppy with the understanding he had congenital heart disease. Although we knew it would be a shorter life for him, we were determined to give him the best life possible. Nimbus (2017- for you Harry Potter fans) was a Newfoundland who loved hiking and swimming. He joined us just about everywhere we went. He was so sweet and loving to everyone he met. Our Nim was just short of 2 years old when he walked over Rainbow Bridge. Our hearts were shattered. We will miss him always.

HOW WILL YOU SEEK ADVENTURE WITH US?

Since September of 2017, we’ve lived on the edge of a marsh near the Atlantic and on a peninsula of the Pacific. Our RV climbed the mountains of the west and rested deep in the valleys. The forest pines have been our neighbors just as often as the desert saguaro cacti. Along our route, we continue to seek what’s unknown to us and appreciate every opportunity life offers us. Approaching the unfamiliar can be intimidating, but really, what do we have to lose?

Join our life of adventure and gain knowledge about unique destinations, best practices while camping, and choosing an eco-friendly lifestyle. Learn about tried and true sustainable gear and download free guides and checklists. We hope you find inspiration and motivation to jump out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to grow!
